Call for New Officers

An election for New Officers of the Association will be held at the upcoming General Meeting in Barcelona, Spain on Weds 29th September 2010.

The term of the President and Vice President is 3 years. Both of these roles are now available for re-appointment from October 2010. The Secretary and Treasurer posts remain for a further year, to help ensure continuity.

Officers of the European Association of Technology Enhanced learning should be members in good standing. They should be nominated by a member in good standing and seconded by at least one more.  The election may be conducted or ratified by an extraordinary General Meeting of the Association.  The roles are required to progress the mission of the association, and to represent its members and give energy and focus to our work.

Nominations for these positions should be received by the Association Secretary by September 23rd 12:00 UT.  Nominated candidates will be invited to speak and answer any questions, at the formal GA meeting.

Nominations for President:

Katherine Maillet is an Associate Professor in the Foreign Languages and Social Sciences Department at Telecom and Management SudParis (formerly INT). She has twenty years experience in teaching and research in the area of TEL more especially in the deployment of information and communications technologies to support novel teaching and learning scenarios which foster second language and culture acquisition. During this time, she has been involved in 20 national and international R&D projects. Her current projects include ICOPER (EU eContent+), eSec (EAEAC Lifelong Learning) and LIMED (greater Paris Region). As leader of Outreach to Academia activities during the PROLEARN Network of Excellence (FP6) she launched the annual JTEL Summer School in 2005 and has promoted its sustainability through 2010 as leader of the EATEL SIG: Joint Technology Enhanced Learning Doctoral Academy. Her other contributions to EATEL include Programme Co-Chair of the EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. She was the Local Organisation Chair of EC-TEL 2009.

Nominations for Vice President:

Martin Wolpers holds a PhD in electrical engineering and information technology from the Leibnitz University Hannover. He is leading the research group on and the department of “Context and Attention for Personalized Learning Environments” at Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, dealing with trend and user-goal identification from contextualized attention metadata streams, focussing on technology enhanced learning. Some of his stronger engagements in research projects are the project management position of the FP6 EU/IST TEL NoE PROLEARN, the coordinator of the EC eContent+ MACE project and the FP7 EU/ICT IP ROLE. His research focuses on how to use metadata to improve technology enhanced learning scenarios. In detail, he focuses on contextualized attention metadata and knowledge representation in education. His further research interests deal with conceptual modelling, databases and information extraction. Most recently, he co-chaired EC-TEL 2010.
